That your registration process can dramatically impact your attendees? A smooth, comfortable registration process can change the way they look at your organization. It can decrease complications and complaints at your events. It can even lead to higher attendance and lower no show rates.

Event organizers often worry that high-tech registration options will alienate a portion of their target audience. Yet you'll be surprised how quickly even your most traditional users will adapt to online registration. In fact, many event organizers have found that removing paper registration all together has led to higher attendance, happier attendees and much fewer complications at events.

The following provides some helpful tips for selecting and implementing your online event registration process and for getting your participants to use it.
When selecting a service for your event's online registration, there are a few things that you should look for. First, you'll want to make sure that the service allows you to customize fields to collect information that is specific to your event rather than simply providing you with standard fields that you cannot alter or add to. Secondly, you'll want to ensure that the service allows you to seamlessly incorporate the sign-up or registration page into your existing website. The best features for this also enable you to "skin" the registration page or brand it to your organization's overall look and feel. And, finally, you'll want to ensure that the system includes a comprehensive and secure payment process that accepts multiple forms of payment including the acceptance of all major credit cards, and potentially, a pay-by-check and/or automatic account withdrawal option.

If registration isn't quite where you want it to be, consider a creative way of reconnecting with your audience and convincing them to register. One thing you can try is a preview tele-seminar. During a tele-seminar, you can talk about things you'll cover during the seminar, or invite people who have attended a previous seminar to come on and speak about their experience. A preview tele-seminar can generate the buzz you need to overcome a lull in registration.

Orient your registrants throughout the process. When a registrant gets lost in your registration system it leads to frustration, dissatisfaction and abandoned registrations. To better orient your customers you should display a progress bar at the top of every registration screen, letting them know how many steps they've completed and how many are still to come. In addition, a good group registration platform will always display the name of the person currently being registered by the user. These simple additions will reduce anxiety for your registrants, and you'll reduce errors that lead to confusion for your event planners.
