For a show that has dangerously lied on the brink of cancellation through its first five seasons, the news of a brand new one next year for One Tree Hill is indeed exciting. The series’ 100th episode, meanwhile, caused quite a stir in the show’s legion of fans. It seems One Tree Hill really wanted to make a splash to celebrate the milestone.
Hilarie Burton, who plays Peyton Sawyer in One Tree Hill, revealed that even she wouldn’t dare second-guess how the storyline would develop. Most interesting to fans, perhaps, is whether she and Lucas Scott, played by Chad Michael Murray, would really end up together. Throughout the show’s first five seasons, doubt has been cast upon this “destined” love team because not a few obstacles were thrown their way. Several worthy girls were linked to Murray ’s character that fans are having a hard time figuring out who Lucas would end up with. Burton herself said whenever she thought she had it figured out, the creator would change everything.
“I don’t think I’ll ever give up on Lucas,” she said. “Because I never know when he’s going to come back to haunt me – and haunt me in a really beautiful, tender, sensitive way.”
Burton revealed she is not stranger to love triangles, and it includes no less than Michaela McManus, also part of the One Tree Hill cast. McManus plays Lindsey Strauss, a book editor whom Lucas also had a relationship with. According to Burton , she and McManus both went to Fordham University in New York and even lived on the same floor and had the same group of friends. She said hers and McManus’ roommates dated the same guy.
As for the show’s extension, Burton couldn’t be happier. The past five seasons she spent working with her co-stars made her extremely close with them. She said her whole family is with her now, with her brother working for the show and her parents moving in there.
“It’s a great place to be,” she summed up.
