How to Make a 3D Model of Curtains
Film studios, video game companies and graphic artists use free 3D models to help them view their work. Companies purchase some of these models, while having others custom made for the project. Making a curtain requires a simple model so it will not take a long time to make and will save money. Many 3D programs can be used for this purpose.
Step by Step.
SketchUp
- Open SketchUp. Select the 2D figure standing in the scene and delete it.
- Select the "Rectangle" tool from the tool palette. Use it to draw a rectangle about the size of your curtain in the scene free 3d models.
- Use the "Line" tool to draw a series of lines from top to bottom. The number of lines will determine how smooth the curve of your curtain will be, so add a lot of them.
- Hold down the "Ctrl" key and use the "Selection" tool to select one of the lines and move it inward along the green axis. Do this again with the next line. Continue this process to produce one-half of a curve. Then move the next line outward. Continue this to produce the the other half of the curve.
- Repeat step 4 to produce all the folds of your curtain. Save your work.
Hexagon
- Open Hexagon. Click on the "Lines" tab and choose the "Interpolated Curve" tool.
- Use the tool to draw a line in the scene the shape of the base of the curtain. Hit "Enter" on the keyboard.
- Click on the "Vertex" modeling tab and choose "Fast Extrude." Use the tool to extrude the shape up to form the curtain shape. Hit "Enter" on your keyboard. Save your work.
Vue Infinite
- Open Vue Infinite. Go to the tools on the right and click on the "Terrain" icon.
- Select "Object" from the menu and choose "Edit Object." The terrain editor will open.
- Click on the "Reset" button. This will give you a flat surface to work with. Then use the "Raise" and "Erode" paint tools on the right to raise those section of your curtain that you want to protrude forward and push down those sections that you want to fold back. Click "OK" when finished and save your work free 3d models.
