Los Angeles is the most important locale in the U.S. for movie and television production in the arts and crafts industry. The area has long been a mecca for actors, writers, composers, artists, and other creative types.
The area is plays host to many institutes that study and appreciate film production, such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the American Film Institute. Various awards are bestowed annually for movie and television production, attracting worldwide viewing audiences.
Although movie production in Los Angeles remains the most important center for the medium, Hollywood has become more international, and faces increasing competition from other American cities and from Canadian locales like Vancouver and Toronto. Countries that can offer much cheaper production costs, such as Romania and Australia are also competitive with Hollywood.
The movie and television industries have assisted in creating the image that denotes Los Angeles across the world. Millions of tourists travel to see Hollywood-related places of interest such as the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Los Angeles is also one of the most important sites in the globe for the recording industry. An example of this is the famous Capitol Records building, resembling a stack of albums. The Warner Brothers built a major recording business in addition to their movie business.
Ethnically, Los Angeles had a vibrant African-American musical community even when it was relatively small. A number of musical artists coalesced around Central Avenue, including great musicians, such as Charles Mingus and Gerald Wilson.
Moving forward to the conclusion of the 1990s the metal band Linkin Park was founded in Agoura, CA, and was named for Lincoln Park in Santa Monica, close to their recording studio. Although Los Angeles has produced not many internationally successful acts in the 2000s, the city retains its importance as a center of rock music, rap, and of the music industry in general.
The demands of scoring thousands of hours of soundtracks for television and movies also gives work for composers and classically-trained musicians, orchestras, and symphonies.

Are Hollywood New Released Movies Going to be All Remakes?
By: Neil Gerstein | 11/08/2007 | Movies
Have you noticed how Hollywood seems to have
almost totally lost its collective creative
imagination these last few years. It seems to me
that more and more of the new released movies
coming out of Hollywood these days are nothing
but remakes of either classic movies, TV movies
or shows, old comic book super heroes and cartoon
characters. Hollywood seems to think they can
improve upon everything with special effects. I
for one am getting sick of it. Try coming up with
something new for a change.
