William Turner prints cover the career of famous British painter Turner who was talented within watercolours and oils. Turner was aprolific landscape artist at a time when portrait and religious painting was far more accepted. Artists like Constable and Turner were fundamental to the rise of landscape painting helping to lay the foundations for the impressionist movement which followed soon after.

JMW Turner along with John Constable, Thomas Gainsborough, George Stubbs and Joshua Reynolds were the most important artists to have risen from 18th and 19th century Britain which attempted to compete with the artistic powerhouses like Italy and Netherlands of that period. Whilst they failed to achieve quite the prominence as artists from those countries, there was still a great importance to these British-born painters and they certainly played an important role in the development of European art in their own right, particularly in the rise of landscape painting as an accepted and much-loved alternative to the traditional ideas of portrait paintings and religious depictions.

The best William Turner paintings included Slave Ship (Slavers Throwing Overboard the Dead and Dying, Typhoon Coming On), Eruption of Vesuvius, Warkworth Castle, Northumberland - Thunder Storm Approaching at Sun-Set, The Battle of Trafalgar, as Seen from the Mizen Starboard Shrouds of the Victory, Snow Storm: Hannibal and His Army Crossing the Alps,The Burning of the Houses of Lords and Commons and The Grand Canal, Venice. The full list from his career is almost endless and an excellent topic of study for those looking to appreciate landscape painting..

Conclusively William Turner will remain one of the most respected artists from the romanticist era and his legacy is felt in oil painting and watercolours, both of which he impressed massively within. The reputation of this master is shown by the frequency of exhibitions which are held in his honour as well as the popularity that they normally receive, particularly in the UK where he spent the majority of his life.
