The Devil pled for release, and clever Jack only decided to let the Devil go if the Devil promises not to allow him into Hell when his time came. When Jack died, he was cast off from Heaven for being unkind and parsimonious, and not allowed into Hell because of his earlier agreement with the Devil. Afraid of itinerant in the dark always, Jack carved out a turnip, put a light in it, and used it to search for a sleeping place.
Jack o' lanterns could be real amusing projects for children, though adult direction is suggested. All ages could find amazing activity in making jack o' lanterns, any how. To make a jack o' lantern, choose a good sized pumpkin with an even shape. Cut the upper part of the pumpkin, using the available stem as a grip for the “top” of the pumpkin.
