Article writing is a marketing tactic that nearly anyone can master. All it takes is determination, dedication, and a willingness to learn the craft. Yes, I said craft. Writing high quality, informative articles is a craft just like knitting, basket weaving, or even glass blowing. No one starts out as an expert and must learn how to create a high quality piece of workmanship. It is no different with article writing.

Article marketing is the process of writing and submitting keyword rich, 350 to 500 word articles to article directories and ezines. These articles are posted on the directories or published in ezines for people from around the globe to read. At the end of your articles there will be an author’s resource box. Place your name, your real URL, and a few sentences about yourself and/or your product and you now have free advertising.

Before long you will have a number of articles in circulation and you will begin to be recognized as an expert in your field. When the readers visit your website they will already be familiar with your name and the fact that you have expertise. This will pre-sell them on either joining your list or purchasing a product. Article Marketing traffic has a much higher conversion rate than Pay Per Click traffic.

The real key to succeeding in Article Marketing is consistency. Make sure that your articles are always packed with information and educate your reader.

Write a headline that grabs the reader’s attention. Boring headlines lead to unread articles. Unread articles lead to no traffic and worse yet zero sales or subscriptions.

Successful articles focus around keywords. A keyword is a set of terms used by most major search engines to rank web pages. They are also used by people who are conducting a search. Decide which keywords you are going to use and place them within the first 4 to 6 words of your headline. Also be sure that they appear in your article.

Use short paragraphs. Short paragraphs are easily understood. Large bulky paragraphs can cause a reader to choose another article.

Use bullet points, numbers, or sub-headlines. This lets you break up the article and makes it even more understandable to your reader.

Construct a good author’s resource box that gives information on you and your website or product. Use a call to action such as “visit us at”, etc.

Keep writing articles. Simply writing one article per week is not going to work if you are trying to drive traffic to your website. You must write everyday. When I started out I set a goal of 25 articles per week and would write at least 5 per day. With more articles in circulation there is a higher likelihood of your articles being used by publishers and being read by the public.

Writing high quality articles as I said is a craft just as crocheting, sculpting, or origami. It takes time to learn just as any other skill does. Anyone can write articles but it takes time to learn to write great articles.
