The Son

Vikram and Vimala were busy inviting the guests coming for the celebration of their son’s naming ceremony. After, all gathered the purohit started chanting slokas and asked the invitees to propose a name. Different names were proposed but Vimala; proud of delivering the boy had a name in her mind. Unending proposals finally ended when Vimala’s proposal was announced by her father. The name is Ananth.Then started pouring of gifts. Later, all dispersed after having the tasty and delicious food. The servant Yellaih cleaned thoroughly and set the house in order. He went and came back with his gift to Ananth. He handed over his gift to the couple. They were astonished and delighted at the gift. It was a teak plant. They requested Yellaih to plant in their garden.

Ananth is now in states, working as a doctor. The teak tree has grown to 30feet tall vertically. Visitors coming to the couple have a look at the tree and feel jealous of its value, strength and the way it was grown with care by Vikram.

On a fine day Ananth wrote to his father of his wish to construct a new house in their colony. He further wrote that the teak tree shall be cut for the furniture, doors and windows of his proposed house.

Vikram conveyed the contents of the letter to his wife.

On a pleasant evening Vimala was watching T.V. and Vikram was walking in his garden.

“Daddy, Daddy” a call was heard by Vikram. He turned back to look for his son. It is his myth. Ananth is in states. How he can call and who else can call him ‘daddy’.

He started walking again.

After a few minutes, with a crying tone “daddy…… daddy, daddy” was heard loudly.

Vikram stopped and called his wife out and described her of the happening. She smiled at him and said ‘don’t fool me and don’t be crazy for him so soon. Let him earn name, fame and money’. She went back to watch the climax of her favourite serial in TV.

Again a continued crying tone said “daddy, daddy, I .your son, teak.”

Vikram stopped and looked at the teak tree. He saw the crying tree and tears were coming from it.The teak said” daddy, you have grown me and Ananth with equal affection and care. We are of same age. He left for states, I am happy here with you”.

Controlling the cry, the teak further said “I heard of you killing me by cutting with a sharp saw for Ananth’s house”. The teak suddenly burst into tears and wept loudly, the said “don’t kill me dad .I too am your son”.

Then Vikram ran to the teak tree, hugged and said “Don’t worry. I will not. Stop crying. Yes. I have two sons. Of the two Ananth is away. You are ‘the son’. I will

I will mail Ananth to go for an alternative design for his house. You don’t worry, don’t cry. You are with me and I am for you son”, and cajoled the son.
