When someone who works hard at what they do for a living chances are they feel at least a little passionate about what they do. Writing for life is a goal and I am working for free much of the time. So that one day I will be able to do what I love and help others achieve their dreams as well. There are many reasons a person should be enjoying their work but here I will only share a few.
The number one reason to enjoy work is one that might not be so obvious to those who do not enjoy their work. When someone enjoys what they do they do it well. People who go to work hating every minute of it as a general rule do not do their best. The job still gets done but only in as much as it must be done. It is exceedingly rare to find someone over achieve doing something they dislike.
On the flip-side of this coin it becomes outwardly obvious to everyone who witnesses someone doing their job to the best of their ability. You can tell when someone enjoys what they do because they are always smiling and trying to improve on their already excellent standards. It is also contagious. People around those who take pride in their work tend to want the same pride. It makes work much easier when you pride yourself on the performance of a job well done.
The number two reason for me personally is actually the number one reason; availability. Allow me to explain. Say there are only a few positions left in a specific job market, lets say restaurant work. There are a number of people who actually like the work and find it fulfilling. If you hate the work and take the job anyway your filling a position that could be filled by someone who actually wants the job.
In the end you will be unhappy and the other person has to find other work. The other person might not find another restaurant kind of job. In fact they may end up in a position that would be perfect for the unhappily employed individual. In the end who do you think will do a better job?
The number three reason is your health. People who are happy live longer than those who are unhappy. Psychology is important to life. Your whole life is spent up in your mind. If you surround yourself with things that are not who you really are inside you will be unhappy. This tends to spread into other areas of your life. Ultimately you put your health at risk.
Things like stress and anxiety are at a minimum for people who enjoy work. They also tend to have a lot more energy when they get off work. Productivity increases and happy people are more fun to be around.
Well that's my take on it. I really enjoy writing and helping others express themselves with the written word. I believe that there is a writer in everyone but not everyone is a writer. If that makes any sense? Just wanted to share my thoughts on this. I hate seeing unhappy people when it could be otherwise.
Everyone has a purpose in life. If you don't know what that is yet then it is your job to find that out as soon as possible. If you are unhappy with your job please do yourself and everyone around you a favor and start looking for something else. Your life will improve, your performance will improve, and your health will improve too.
