Secrets of the Web Site Design and Development Industry in New York

I was fortunate enough to interview Jerry Hugh, CEO of HotDigital, a Manhattan web design firm after bumping into him on the Eurostar train between London and Paris. Here is what he had to say about the success of his company, one of the top web development studios in the country.

"We custom design each service program to meet our clients' specific needs. HotDigital, Inc. has built a solid reputation throughout New York in flash web design services and commercial database development services. Our customer relationships are based on honesty, timely communication and outstanding web design results at competitive rates." said Hugh. "Moreover, HotDigital, Inc. offers free service estimates and consultation with our professional consultants in order to provide the best website design services available," he added.

Their wide array of services for New York city's financial industry, fashion desigers, and midtown as well as downtown and uptown real estate, provide a portfolio of solutions with the quality you'd expect from a company with their reputation. They are extremely flexible in adapting to special needs and can provide the services necessary when database and content updating occurs. I asked if this was correct, and he said "You hit the nail right on the head. We provide a web design service and include on-going maintenance services for a myriad of web site design services," then proceeded to take another small bite from his croissant

As we crossed through the scenic countryside, I thought to myself "if the design of the Web page is a process involving conceptualization of a plan for a website through visual appeal and languages, then does this mean that the goal of the design process is to create a Web site that accurately delivers information with beaucoup style?" If so, elements like the content, the manner of creation, and the defined vision of communication in well orchestrated complex means (graphs, vectors, animations, videos, and of course run-of-the-mill website pages) may not succeed merely with good ideas, but rather through implementation of best practices that handle elements of the client's business model. If this is, or rather was, the case for web sites that exist today, does it follow that compelling design is also ultimately purposeful? As I arrived at my destination, I realized that I needed to disembark as soon as possible, and go on about my original plan.

The next morning, as I awoke in Paris, I realized that implementing much of these trade secrets would require explanations and offers that are too complicated to explain in detail here. Through my conversation with Mr. Hugh, I felt as though I had come to know them as if by osmosis or second nature. Puzzled by this paradox, I was still able to gain my bearings enough to reach Hugh on his satellite phone. He keenly pointed out that "commercial web design services require knowledge of public, private, and corporate website usage that is inherently thorough and always demanding. All of our client engagements naturally cover mandatory self-imposed requirements of usability, security, database programming, website development, and standard web design methods or procedures, " and left it at that. I felt priviliged to have gained such insight.
