Every organization should devise certain strategies after it lays off employees. An organization normally lays off employees when it’s profits start sinking and it can no more cope up with the increasing pressure of falling revenues. And then the worst part is management of employees. They are finally left with the option of laying off employees when they are unable to handle the costs of the employees. The objective primarily is to reduce the costs of each employee they incur.

In such a malevolent situation, an employee is the worst affected in spite of receiving the compensation for being laid off from the organization.  Although the organization you were in also has to suffer, but you suffer more. You begin thinking, what went wrong with you. Why you were one of them who was impinged and rendered jobless? Why other employees are still with the same organization. You spent a great deal of time with the organization, proved yourself  and still were a part of massive layoff and were considered a dead wood.

It is time you should take a look at the following tips to boost your morale and to survive during layoffs.

  • Accept change: Before you take any action post downsizing of the company, you must make up your mind to go for a change. Change has to happen and so you should be ready to accept it. Learn to deal with negative effects of change while be confident from inside. Think that only good will happen to you.

  • Build up and save your cash: If you have been informed early about the layoff which is going to take place in the organization, then better start saving your cash and try also to build up your cash. Remember that this is your emergency fund and so use it wisely. This fund can be used to save you from going into debt. Also a few companies have severence allowance policies and some of them even do assist into placing people into other jobs.

  • Bargain for better: Before the company downsizes and lays off employees, you are always notified in advance. And the company is prepared to give compensation. In such a case, you should negotiate for either good amount of cash or some other benefits like bonuses, health coverage or  other additional perks etc. Companies in their endeavor to keep up it’s prestige and to survive in future will bend for an employee’s cause.

  • Have no complaints with your employer: While leaving the organization if you spoil your relationship with your employer and keep complaining because he has laid you off, it will be detrimental for you. You may need him as a future reference in your next employment, so keep a good and healthy relationship with him.

  • Look for a new job: After you have bagged a good amount of compensation, it is time to bag a good job offer. Now, it is time you should not cry over the past and rather network with your friends and family to seek a new job. There can be various options and one of them could be applying online for the job. It will take some time to get a good job, but have patience.

  • Seek time out for yourself and your family: This is your lean period when you are financially and emotionally affected. But, you need not worry, rather enjoy peacefully with your family which will relax your mind.

  • Be in touch with experts: If you keep in touch with professionals of your area, it will help in a number of ways. They can give you proper guidance regarding your career and means to develop your skills.
