The 21st Century Professionals

Over the years, i have had friends and family call and email me with questions about their IT needs ranging from the best mobile technologies to the most efficient web hosting providers online.

Discussions like this gets the technically uninformed very excited about technology and needing more information on the subject. But as i have often noticed, these folks never have enough information to make an informed decision so the turn to people like you and me to help them out.

A couple of weeks ago, i had an exchange with a friend wanting professional advice on the cheapest and most effective internet promotion techniques available to apply to a web business of his.

Just before that, i had a conversation with another friend who was thinking about getting a new laptop PC and was wondering what the best configuration would be with regard to his IT needs which he spent over 30 minutes telling me about on the phone.

A free member of one of my websites has contacted me repeatedly with questions about the best budget web hosting service around and asking for my recommendations.

Another friend needs his website optimized for search engines and wants me to tell him the best ways to gain better SERPs, Google PR and recommend good reading resources online where he can get a step by step guide to SEO.

I have often heard of Doctors and Lawyers complain about people who come to them for free consultation and wondered why these professionals where complaining since i did'nt see any harm in helping a few people who just need a simply answer to what seems to be a simple question.

But today, i've come to realise that the Professionals who family and friends will turn to the most in the 21st century will be you and me, the IT Pros & Geeks.

The deal now is to figure out how to turn your IT knowledge, experience & expertise into a business as viable as a medical or legal practice. To this end, i'll recommend a few suggestions to get you started.

Establish a JV with some of your IT knowlegable friends and set up a membership website to address the most sought after IT needs of the technology savvy peoples of the 21st century. Make sure you update your website content regularly to keep up to speed with the latest news and innovations in this ever evolving IT world.

Set up payment gateways on your site where prospective clients can pay a minimal fee to access informations that decisively address the problems the require solutions to.

Send out occasional newsletters to your list to inform them of any changes to your website and generally keep in touch with subscribers. Remember, not all subscribers pay to access information immediately, so keeping in touch via email newsletters is'nt a bad idea.

Join safelist and send out regular broadcast emails to the lists regarding your service, this would extend your audience beyond your opt in subscribers. Remember to write articles and submit to article directories as this not only broadens your reach but also establishes you as an authority in your area of expertise.

Next, when someone asks for your advice, gracefully give them your card and ask them to call you or better still visit your website for more information.

Some people will get to you without wanting to pay your fees. Just tell them you remember reading about the problem in an article somewhere online and offer some relevant keywords for them to use in a web search on google or any other search engine.

This way, they'll know you care in some way.
