What if the same five key elements or essentials were part of every major issue? Knowing these well or even passably would boost your understanding of many subjects and events and your ability to spot links between them and develop an overview. 5 Elements Theory does just this in a surprising number of areas and ways including Chinese Astrology and Feng Shui and more!

Five Elements Matrix

Five Elements Theory underpins areas as varied as Astrology, Feng Shui, Philosophy and Medicine, providing insights into birth, health, fortune, time and events, ranging from the Universal to the highly personal.Considered in key categories, the common 5 Elements content applied to number of areas enables analysis and overviews of a range of issues to be presented and understood in standard fashion facilitating the acquisition of knowledge.

Their Productive Cycle

Earth produces/ supports Metal (mined from veins therein);

Metal produces/supports Water (liquefying when molten and also via pans and bowls);

Water produces/supports Wood (via irrigation and cultivation);

Wood produces/supports Fire (via conflagration);

Fire produces/supports Earth (via its ashes) then, once again Earth produces Metal!

This 10-Year Cycle where each Element supports/produces the next in line is represented by the Pentagon (Elements in this sequence manifest in the human body at the Tan T'ien) . It produces the changing Year Elements accompanying the 12 Animal Years and individuals' Birth Year Elements.

Their Destructive Cycle

Earth destroys Water (river banks force it into predetermined courses);

Water destroys Fire (Fire-fighters all agree!);

Fire destroys Metal (oxy-acetylene torches cut it up);

Metal destroys Wood (via axes and saws);

Wood destroys Earth (vegetation covers it and extracts nutrients

This 10-Year Cycle where each Element removes the next-but-one from the original list is represented by the Pentagram (approximating the human form with outstretched arms and legs, this relects the elimination of  stale 'shar' Qi at body-surface level). ..

Feng Shui Directions, Colour and Animals

Earth Centre; beige, yellow, brown, cream; (being empty it has no animal);

Metal.West; white, red (coppery) silver; White Tiger;

Water. North; black, blue; Black Warrior (Tortoise and Snake composite);

Fire. South, red; Red Bird;

Wood. East; green; Green Dragon.

These relate to the design and location of dwellings, internal decor and the internal and external placement of objects .

The Universal and Human Form

Earth Solids: bones, flesh teeth etc; also the spleen which governs transport of waste matter (i.e. faeces) for excretion and return to Earth.

Metal Gases: respiration, digestion, flatulence etc; also the lungs--all light but powerful (high power-to-weight ratios characterise Metals).

Water Liquids: (blood, semen, bile, saliva etc) and the kidneys which control hormonal secretions into the bloodstream and urination.

Fire Energies: (temperature, nervous and synaptic responses, bio-electricity, Qi etc) and the Heart which powers bodily functions and makes us warm-blooded.

Wood Spirit: (fuel, motive power source, live energy source) obtained via eating grasses, vegetables and fruit etc or animals which do: The Liver governs its extraction and delivery to the heart via the bloodstream which it conditions.

Wood-Spirit isn't Qi, which is energy, or (obviously) the Gu Shen (Valley Spirit) from the Shen Gu/Spirit Valley,between brain hemispheres, but the body's energy-source in this superstition-free 5 Elements definition which is synthesised from our diet of this Element. This fuels bodily activities invisibly via internal processes 'moving mysteriously' within us!

Qi and Qigong

5 Elements Martial and Health Qigong exercise routines also embed correspondences and links between the above areas, frequently stimulating participants' interest in Chinese Astrology, Medicine Feng Shui and more and represent a further link between Five Elements Theory and the human form.

 Practice routines strengthen the 5 major internal organs (listed above) and ensure balanced manifestation of the 5 Elements within the body p[lus a similarly balanced elimination of the same--the original 'Five-a-day' essential for health!

    June will begin on the crest of a lunar eclipse under the umbrella of Venus' retrograde and an approaching clash of outer planets. Needless to say, June could be a rather tough month, from beginning to end. There could be financial problems, relationship problems, and personal losses. Tread lightly this month, and for Heaven's sake, leave the big sticks in the woods. Conflicts could turn into disasters.
