If there is a connection to the moon phases and hair cuts, what is it? What does it mean? Inquiring minds want to know. Others simply use the knowledge and know that it works. The astrology sources collected for the monthly charts are based on traditional lore. You might declare that they are made of whims and wishes, but direct experience over time bears them out to those who put it to the test.
On the astrological side, the ongoing debate for the Pisces/Cancer poll is at 66% in favor and 33% opposed. The poll question asks if you agree about the recommendation to avoid hair treatments during the Pisces and Cancer moons.
My moon phase hair experiment is a success for my needs. The coloring product that I use has a 28-day recommendation. I wonder if the folks who made the 28-day product had the moon cycle in mind when they mixed the formula. I chose a waning moon in Virgo to color roots for slow re-growth and it lasted 46% longer than I would normally expect. The second coloring lasted the extra 46% of time as well.
Getting back to the question of how and why the moon phases work with hair cuts and hair treatments, we have already discussed the astrological qualities of Virgo and Aquarius that make them beneficial moon signs for coloring. The mutable quality of Virgo is flexible, versatile, and adaptable. While Aquarius is a fixed sign, it offers the aspect of change. Both signs appear to fit the bill for the condition of change that occurs in the act of coloring hair.
The recommendation to use the waning moon to slow growth goes along with gardening techniques and the movement of water in plants. It is now a well-known observation that after the full moon leaves grow less than they do during the waxing phase of the moon. So, we take advantage of the diminished moisture to perform a hair treatment during the waning moon to slow down a process.
Let’s set astrology aside for a moment. Some people contend that since hair is considered dead it is therefore not possible for it to be affected by any source whatsoever. I have an interesting experience to share with you on this topic, and you may have had a similar one yourself. I’ll never forget it. With respect to my father’s memory, here is the story. On the sad occasion of my father’s passing, I entered the room for the private viewing before the funeral service. Everyone said he looked fine and I looked around in surprise that no one else could see it. My father’s hair was straight as an arrow! I quickly asserted to the funeral director that this was not how my father looked when he was alive. His hair had a particular wave to it that was missing and it made a striking difference to me to see it like that.
This personal experience showed me that the hair was indeed linked to the energy of being alive, not dead. When I consider the energetic pressure that I feel building towards the Full Moon and its almost magical release afterwards, I can easily perceive that it is possible to have an energetic relationship between hair treatments and the moon phases. We cannot necessarily see such forces at work, but we do experience non-physical forces all of the time. People have varied responses to explanations about the moon cycle. Whether explanations about moon phases and hair appear to be on target, or not, perhaps a little mystery in life can be a good thing.
