The Flavors of Fear and How to Choose the One That’s YoursWe are frequently told about how we should ignore fear and go for what we want and to some extent that’s really true. However, I think fear (like ice-cream) has more than one flavour and some fears can actually help us. There are times when fear is appropriate…like when we are faced with physical danger or someone is threatening one of our nearest and dearest. I like to distinguish between four types of fear. Training is a Journey, not a DestinationTraining is not important. And I say this as a trainer with well over 10 years’ experience. What is important is that learners see how what they have learned can be integrated and implemented into their current experience. Your 1000 Day VisionThis piece is about choosing where you are going to be in 1000 days (i.e., three year’s time). Al Gores’ Approach to Work-life BalanceIf you “ain’t” got a life, work is not much good to you! I even think the word balance is a misnomer. But I’d like you to think about it a little more…and realise how liberating it is in reality. Motivating yourself on MondayI have a theory that everyone should work for a day or a week in a job that they truly, spectacularly detest. I think it would concentrate the mind deeply about doing work that you enjoy and help you remember that your current job is not all bad. 10 Ways to Get Back Into the Confidence ClubThe word for confidence in Gaelic is muinín (pronounced muneen) and it is also the word for trust. The English dictionary definition of confidence is "firm trust," "a feeling of reliance or certainty." So, self-confidence is really about trusting yourself. The question then is how can you learn to trust yourself. 10 Ways for Contractors to Keep Their Current Customers Happy and Keep More ComingMore and more of us are becoming contractors (over 200,000 according to CSO), and one of the key skills to being successful is knowing how to treat our customers in such a way as they keep giving us repeat work (the easiest sort of work to get). Five Keys to Setting Attractive Sustainable GoalsWe’ve all been there. How many of you have set up new year’s resolutions only to discover that you have slipped after the first week or been to a workshop and sworn that this time you are really going to achieve those dreams you have had at the back of your mind?
