    Poker Calculator Basics: Understanding Vpip

A VPIP percentage between 24% and 30% is generally thought to be straight up, position and hand card strength. You can normally expect a competitor in this range to be either be playing hole cards with inherent strength, position blind steals and position potential hands like connectors. Mzone Report: Playing Against Rookie Flush Masters

You see, pot odds make no difference to inexperienced players. They may only take note if you raise enough that calling may take them out of the poker tournament, and even then horrible calls are common. Read: Mzone Report: Playing Against Rookie Flush Masters Read

Mzone Tournament Strategy: What to Do When you Go Card Dead

For players that may be just getting into online tournaments and coming to grips with the regular distribution of hands, it is quite difficult cope sometimes with these runs and thus lean towards poor decisions and all-in frustration. I have certainly lived through this period myself and have witnessed it in others hundreds of times. Read: Mzone Tournament Strategy: What to Do When you Go Card Dead Read

Full Tilt Poker Madness at Midnight

The midnight madness no-limit hold’em tournament at Full Tilt Poker is one of the most consistently high turn out tournaments in the online poker world. Every night, at twelve midnight eastern standard time, you can get in this tournament for only ten bucks plus the one buck administration fee (rake). But what’s so good about it? A few things make this tournament a profitable venture including the time of day, the buy in, and the attrition rate. Read: Full Tilt Poker Madness at Midnight Read

It’s a Matter of Numbers and Math in Poker and Blackjack

There is a reason why blackjack is the most popular casino game. If you are exceptional at math skills, you stand a good chance to come out ahead – even long term. Yes you can beat the house, but casinos are pretty wise to somebody actually winning consistently as a result of counting cards and skewing an advantage for the player. You might have heard about Andy Bloch (and some MIT buddies), one of the first WPT final table participants who was actually banned from certain casinos for playing bl Read: It’s a Matter of Numbers and Math in Poker and Blackjack Read

Poker Calculator Report: It’s the Decision That Counts, not the Outcome

Granted no one is immune from tilting and even though I normally avoid it, there is still a tendency once in awhile to throw my laptop into the backyard fish pond. That being said, I am far more composed when compared to the antics of table monkeys having poker fits that I am sure would make hilarious, if not outrageous youtube scenes. Poker Calculator Report – Full Tilt Security Cracking Down Now

Next is the enforcement and crackdown on the data-mining activities of third party software like Poker-Edge. This software has always been the nemesis of Poker Stars and Party Poker where those sites actually scan your hard-drive now to determine if you are using such software. You will get a warning of account deletion and confiscation in about a New York minute if you are actually using it. Read: Poker Calculator Report – Full Tilt Security Cracking Down Now Read

Mzone Report: Near the Money Aggression

Ok fair point here and I agree it's a difficult concept to grasp, but I would like to reiterate here that in entry level tournament play your most profitable strategy will be super tight, even NEAR THE MONEY. Essentially you shouldn't be playing hands (while establishing your bankroll) where you are NOT the favorite. Being a clear favorite is even better when NEAR THE MONEY. I have several reasons for this, so hear me out. Read: Mzone Report: Near the Money Aggression Read

Poker Book Report: your Worst Poker Enemy by Alan Schoonmaker

Recently I was in a sit and go tournament where during the early stages I noticed a player generously handing out the usual “nh” – nice hand comments while he was (by no skill of his own) the early chip leader. Later as the tournament narrowed and his competition increased he got less friendly and eventually as I took the lead from him, downright belligerent. Just before I won the tournament and eliminated him in third place, he actually chatted that he would kill me if he saw me. Oh brother. Mzone Report: Playing “small Ball” Poker in Online Tournaments

Hopefully as your skill building in the game improves, you will be able to recognize spots to play without a hand, but rest assured that skill will be most useful in live, higher buy-in tournaments. Read: Mzone Report: Playing “small Ball” Poker in Online Tournaments Read
