Certain types of Human Papillomavirus (HPVs), mainly HPV types 16 and 18 have been recognised as major etiological factors for the development of cervical cancer. Antibodies against HPV antigens have been found to be associated with cervical cancer evolution. Different assays can be used for antibody detection but they have low levels of sensitivity and specificity.
