Still Putting All of your Eggs in Google's Basket?By Martha Lee, Get In Position and Alex Kahl, Kahl Consultants
Google has become synonymous with searching the Internet. So much so that "googling" means to search for information online. When people try to improve their website's visibility, it's no surprise that they measure their success by their Google ranking.
However, focusing all your efforts on Google means ignoring over half of your potential audience. Yahoo! and MSN are today no less relevant when building a web marketing campaign.
Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, a hugely popular form of search engine marketing, is offered by all three major engines. Yahoo! 'Search Marketing Products' is at least as useful as Google AdWords. And soon to be riding both their heels, is newly announced, 'MSN Paid Search Solutions'.
But don't limit yourself to just PPC advertising either. The majority of internet searchers go to the "organic" or non-ad listings first. A site that ranks high in these organic or regular search listings is the result of diligent market research. Spending a bit more up front for rank positioning or search engine optimization (SEO) will not only save you a bundle in advertising fees, you'll get better brand visibility in the long run.
A powerful web marketing campaign is multi-faceted and targeted to reach your entire online audience. The key ingredient here, is to always keep an eye out for new niche markets that your competitors may have overlooked.
