Ted Hebert began Teddy Bear Pools in 1975 and operated it out of his family\'s house in East Springfield. When he started out, there were four or five employees. The company sold and installed in-ground and above-ground pools and also did repairs and service. The company name is a play on the French pronunciation of Ted Hebert. It was also Ted\'s nickname as a young child. When his mother first suggested it as a business name, Hebert was not convinced it was creative or appropriate until he thought it over. The \"Teddy Bear\" symbol is \"friendly and family-oriented\" and a good link to a business that is \"home and family centered.\" It \"was easy to remember and very friendly,\" so Hebert incorporated under the name, Teddy Bear Pools. Hebert was and still is the sole owner. Even before Hebert started his business, he already had worked for some time in the pool business. He began in 1965, at the age of 14, \"vacuuming pools and working on a display lot.\" He eventually began to subcontract on the installation of pools for various pool companies. By 1978, Teddy Bear Pools had moved out of the carport in East Springfield to a small garage on Memorial Drive in Chicopee, and had grown to 15 employees. In 1979, Hebert moved the company to 41 East Street, Chicopee, where there is presently: Retail Store Parts Department 5 Laboratory Stations for Pool & Spa Water Analysis Hot Tub, Spa/Sales Showroom Warehouse’s in Chicopee and South Hadley totaling 50,000sq. ft. Fully-Staffed Service Departments for Pools and Spas & Hot Tubs Over 35 Company Vehicles 20 x 40 In-ground Pool 16 x 32 Custom In-ground Pool 5 Above-ground Pool Displays Administrative Offices And much more… During the height of the season, Teddy Bear Pools and Spas employs over 130 people and installs, repairs, and services thousands of pools and spas.Ted established Teddy Bear Pools and Spas in order to bring a different attitude to the pool industry - one that stressed customer satisfaction. Ted feels that this people-oriented attitude is responsible for the success of his company. He feels that we should treat people the way that we want to be treated.
