Wherever the road has taken you - here is love - so you cannot tell where the one ends and the other begins.
1st Lt. Tom Pullings: [Before the final battle as the gun-crews wait for the signal] 'Steady now lads, keep calm.' from Master and Commander, written by Patrick O'Brian, 1969
Sometimes I think we can get God confused with the Wizard of Oz. We can get to the point where we think He is some sort of white bearded magician somewhere out of sight who pulls switches and levers to make our lives either considerably better or much worse. If you are anything like me, sometimes you will have wondered why He does or does not do what we think He should be doing!
Before you take your chisel to the block, you have to know what you are looking for. Without a blueprint, there's just a heap of rubble. Sounds simple, but sometimes life has a habit of becoming a habit. Sometimes we loose the plot, get bogged down or caught in the headlights...
How do you sleep? Sleep, the beloved time when care is put to rest and angels guard us. Or it would be if I was mistress of a large house in Victorian England and I had people tending to my every need...
A Beatles song is a two and a half minute masterclass on how to write the perfect pop record. A melody that will stay with you forever with lyrics to match. Sometimes funny, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes raw, always perfect. You would never know that behind all that Rock ‘n Roll was a man in pieces.
'God has given you a child's book, and an alphabet, in which you may learn the first rough letters of what heaven is.' Charles Spurgeon, The Sympathy of the Two Worlds I have learned that things are not always what they seem. God intends and can make everything good in its time. I have learned to ask for daily bread, just enough for today. Who am I to say that I need to change yesterday or worry about tomorrow?...
So how do you look back at your life? Do you see a series of ups and downs, highs and lows or stops and starts? Do you want the chance to do it over or are you longing for yesterday? However you look at your life, you probably see it as some sort of line. A road that started somewhere and is going somewhere else. But what if it isn't a line at all?
It's not fun when you seem to be the only one not making it, not on board or not like us. We all have days like these. When we stick out like a sore thumb or life just spins out on us, when we put so much in and seem to get nothing out... They say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Although this is the last thing I want to hear on a day from hell, there is a grain of truth in there.
