The Thanksgiving I Shot My Uncle Harry (Almost)

They called it a near miss, but I called it terrifying. I had just nearly killed my Uncle Harry! After fifty years, I still clearly remember the incident. While accompanying the family grownups on a hunting outing on Thanksgiving eve, I had nearly killed my Uncle Harry. Read: The Thanksgiving I Shot My Uncle Harry (Almost) Read

    Happy Birthday, Marines!

On November 10th, 1775, The United States Marine Corps was founded by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Appropriately, 'Tun Tavern' was the place where history was made. Since that date Marines have been in uninterrupted service to our country for 234 years and have distinguished themselves "in every clime and place" in far off lands and on distant remote beaches "from the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli". The NFL's Misbegotten 'Blackout Policy'

I was shocked to hear that the Saturday night, August 15th, preseason game between my local San Diego Chargers and the visiting Seattle Seahawks had become a victim of the National Football League’s ‘blackout policy’. It did not sell out is the given reason. Hogwash! The real reason is plain old greed. The NFL’s object is to punish the home crowd if they do not show enough loyalty to buy all tickets to an NFL game, exhibition season or not! Read: The NFL's Misbegotten 'Blackout Policy' Read

Sharpton’s Racist Remarks Chastising the Media’s Reporting on Michael Jackson

Count on the bloviating Reverend Al Sharpton to taint the memorial service to Michael Jackson held in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009. Not the first time the consummate media- seeking irreverent reverend has done something of this nature. And, as long as he deems himself the spokesman for all of black America, and as long as black America allows him to perpetuate that false image to the rest of us, it won’t be the last. Aunt Ruth and the Ginger Snap Cookie Incident

Aunt Ruth baked all of our pastries. She labored in a hot kitchen with an antiquated cook stove year round. She baked an assortment of goodies, but cookies were her specialty although her cakes were not to be discounted. She baked cakes for all occasions including every birthday for each kid. We chose the cake we wanted and Aunt Ruth made it for us with our name on it – decorating done by hand. My favorite was her chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. MSNBC’s Vile Pursuit of Vengeance

There is a stench in the air emanating from the headquarters of MSNBC, the far left cable news network who proclaim themselves “The Place for Politics”. While they fail to qualify this claim with the bent of their politics, their cacophonous cries, narrow-minded and blatantly biased, for prosecution of former Bush administration officials for what MSNBC proclaims war crimes related to the torture of terrorists captured in the current war exceeds what, by any stretch, could be considered objective journalism. Corporate Greed Run Amok? The Super Bowl in London?

Over the past fiscally shocking months I thought we had seen it all in regards to American corporate greed - bank failures, fraud, incompetence, and too amny others to count. Now we are witness to another egregious example, a thoughtless and irresponsible act of greed by none other than the National Football League! Read: Corporate Greed Run Amok? Summer Sundays On Cross Pond

In our youth, my brother Fred and I went fishing every Sunday on Cross Pond in Morrill, Maine as part of a family event. We revisited the pond in 2004 when my brother was ill with terminal cancer; it was an "On Golden Pond" moment as we reflected on our long past youth and the times we had there at that beautiful, tranquil place. It was to be our last visit together. Read: Summer Sundays On Cross Pond Read

Make Your Own Organic ‘Go Green’ Planting Mix

Its spring which means gardening time again! Time to tuck your plants into their outdoor beds. In so doing, many home gardeners make the critical mistake of sticking their bedding plants into the same old worn out soil they've used for years. They dig it up a bit, maybe throw on some fertilizer, and expect their plants to do the rest. I know a better way. Read: Make Your Own Organic ‘Go Green’ Planting Mix Read
