Initially a Spanish explorer visited Oklahoma in 1541 in quest of Gold. Many other Europeans followed leading to many wars and treaties. Tribes had to give up their lands with the expansion of the western world.
In the earlier times half the eastern side of this state used to be under-water. Many sea creatures used to inhabit it. The British established two colonies here in 1580, but were unsuccessful. Later many people immigrated from Virginia to this land naming it "Carolina." It sometimes joined the union and some times the confederates, ultimately joining the US in 1868.
"Mother of Presidents" - is the nick name of Ohio, as it comes second only after Virginia that provided USA, with amicably elected Presidents.
A very famous New York building, Empire State Building that ascends a quarter of a mile from the ground and is considered a National Historic Landmark that has been visited by billions of visitors till date.
The land that is called North Dakota used to be inhabited by people who did farming and hunting for their livelihood. The horse came to this land in the 18th century, making hunting a little easier.
Lenni Lenape Indians lived here before Europeans came. A Dutch colony was established in 1624 and in 1638, a Swedish colony settled along Delaware River, which was reclaimed by the Dutch in 1655 and then in 1664 the British took over.
English people came here and started fish and fur businesses until the war of the revolution. English Captain John Mason landed here, started the various constructions, and named it New Hampshire as he belonged to Hampshire county of England.
Nevada was explored by the fur traders, but the first real settlement came in 1849 by Mormons. Its name came in 1861 and was derived from Spanish language meaning 'Snow-capped'.
The US Govt. acquired the Louisiana territory and then later Montana was carved out of it. Thirteen states in total were carved out from the old Louisiana territory. Montana became a state on 9th November, 1889 as the 41st state of US and in 1894 Helena outbid Anaconda to become state capitol, the result of the famous 'War of the Copper Kings'.
Many local native tribes used to live here in Mississippi before the Europeans entered this land in 1540. However the first European permanent settlement came in 1699 at Ocean Springs.
