Free radicals generated by so many factors in our body leads to various destructive processes. Antioxdants to required to neutralize the trauma/ damage caused by these free radicals. Certain vitamins and minerals are known to have antioxidant role. Catract formation, ARMD, Diabetic Retinopathy and retinitis Pigmentosa are the few Ophthalmic diseases which can be prevented or minimized by the use of dietary antioxidants or drug supplements.
Blepharitis is one of the commonest Ophthalmic Problem which needs pronged commitment by the patient and the doctor. Characterized by itching of eyes, deposits at the root of cilia, falling of eye lashes and Dry Eye Syndrome. Patient feel cured with initial treatment but the disease recurs and gives same symptoms. Some time the disease becomes intolerable and is associated with dandruff.
Keratoconus, a conical cornea, which develops in some young patients is a great medical & surgical challenge. Spectacle correction do not provide full vision. Gas permeable contact lenses, Rose-K lenses, Keratplasty, Intacs and C3R are new therapeutic measures which may help the patient.
Great advancement has been made in research og management of glaucoma which is blinding disease of eyes. Possibly gene therapy shall be in clinical use to treat various eye diseases or even prevent occurence of Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition of raised intraocular pressure which can cause complete and permanet blindness. The lower the pressure, more chances of preserving the vision. Inspite of control of IOP, some visual damage contimues, suggesting that there must be some other factors to cause glaucoma blindness.
Glaucoma is a blinding disease of eyes, affecting about 4 percent population in the age group of 35to 75 years. In this disease, the eye pressure rises very gradually and unknowingly the field of vision gets constricted, finally resulting in permanent total blindness.The disease may at times be symptomless. Some patients may feel ocular pain and discomfort and decrease in vision at night.
Dry eye is one of the commonest eye problem in modern time, affecting 15-40 percent of the population above the age of 30 years. Use of computer and several drugs tool cause dry eye. It is more common in females.Common problem is itching, foreign body sensations and mucous discharge.
