Earth worms since ages are known to be the friends of farmers although their exact role in soil fertility enhancements are known recently. Of all the worms, only the epigeic worms are of substantial benefit to the farmers because feeding on humus they produce potentially high quality vermicompost rich in all the three primary plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potash in available forms.
