![]() Erick Laseca - ArticlesErick Laseca has been with Burson-Marsteller Chicago since August 2005 and currently works as Client Executive for the Media Practice in Chicago. Born in Cuba and having spent his early years in his family’s native Spain, Erick brings a unique Hispanic perspective and multicultural dimension to his client accounts.
Erick began his Burson-Marsteller career as an independent contractor on the Mexico Tourism Board account. Holding the title of Public Relations Liaison with BM’s tourism practice for the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB), Erick was responsible for developing written materials, handling media relations, organizing press conferences and other media events, as well as coordinating and attending media tours to different Mexican destinations. Among other projects, he spear-headed the media interview efforts for the opening of the new MTB headquarters in Washington, D.C., generating more than 20 interviews in a period of six months. Before joining Burson, Erick worked as Media Credentials Manager for the NASDAQ-100 Open Tennis Tournament in Key Biscayne, Florida, listed as the 4th largest tennis tournament in the world. Erick was responsible for screening the candidates applying for Tournament access, securing genuine journalistic coverage and affording the Tournament with diverse interest-area outlets. Prior to that, Erick was the Spanish Media Spokesperson for the Miami International Boat Show. His responsibilities included being the only spokesperson for Spanish media during the event, for media day interviews and several media-related events off-location. He was also charged with providing English media interviews as the secondary spokesperson during the Show, using his dual-language skills as a native speaker in Spanish and applying the competence of a native English speaker. Erick graduated with honors from the University of Miami (FL) with a double major in Public Relations and International Studies, and a minor in Marketing. He was an active member of several volunteer outreach organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Camillus House and Daily Bread Food Bank. Erick is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA). He is also active in other communications associations, including the Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC) and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Being the only male of the house provides a daily training ground for Erick’s PR skills, with wife Yahilin, 3½ year-old daughter Emilie and cherry blonde cocker spaniel Kandy taking over his living space.
