Community propertyA community property is a property acquired during marriage or a marriage-like relationship, in which the property belongs to each spouse equally and subject to division on that basis in the event of separation or divorce. Generally, all property acquired through the efforts of either spouse during the marriage is considered community property. The law treats this property like the assets of a business partnership.
