An old fashion cake bar is a great way to entertain family and/or friends on a tight budget. Make out a guest list and based on that list choose the types of cake you will feature. Coffee cakes, cheesecakes, cup cakes, sheet cakes, layer cakes, diabetic cakes, etc. all work well. Offer a variety of teas, coffees, lemonade, etc and enjoy a fun time over good cake and conversation.

If you follow my blogs at all you know that as much as I love all the modern recipes, I often turn back to my old fashion recipes. This Old Fashion Classic Vanilla Buttermilk Cake is one of my go to standbys. Try it, you are sure to like it. Sometimes old is better! (Since I am old, I like that last sentence!)

I love all the fancy newer pie recipes but to me there is nothing like a good old-fashion pie. I have pulled some favorites from my collection of the old pies my family and I love and I am sharing them with you. Aunt Jane's Grape Pie was a family recipe for generations. Elsie's Grated Apple Pie was the one my late Aunt made when I was a child over 60 years ago, and the Banana Cream was used in my family as long as I can remember.

I love soups, especially homemade ones. And some of my favorites are the ones from my 1950s childhood that have continued on as I have made them for my children and grandchildren. Homegrown tomatoes were a big part of my childhood. Our gardens were full of them in the summertime and we canned them to enjoy all winter in our soups and stews. Today's recipes are a couple of yummy old-fashion tomato soups. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Busy cooks who want to feed their families healthy meals need to get out the chicken and their crockpot or slow cooker and make an easy meal while they are away or even busy around the house. When the family is ready, the cooker is waiting with a tasty meal! How about some He-Man Chicken Stew made with a can of lite beer? Don't want to use beer? Go for Crockpot Chicken and Carrots.

One of the best breads is homemade Sour Dough Bread. So we took a short hiatus from it since I got tired of them refusing other breads! Make your own sourdough starter with this Everlasting Yeast recipe. Then using that starter, make the delicious bread recipe included. Enjoy with Homemade Raspberry-Rhubarb Jam.

One of my fondest memories of my paternal grandfather was going to his house and having him say, "Wanna come in here (the kitchen with the big old wood cook stove) and have some 'getty with me?" He always called pastas 'getty'. I often wonder if that is why I still love 'getty or pasta so much today. I'm never quite sure if it is the taste or the memory but I have a feeling it is a little of both. Check out the pasta recipes I am sharing in today's article.
