After three days of intensive competition, the first International Chinese Classical Dance Competition concluded on July 8, 2007 in New York City. Twenty-two contestants from across the world gave splendid performances and high level displays in the Finals. Expressed through different dance styles, they presented the rich and colorful inner meanings of Chinese dance.

Celebrating the Chinese New Year should be called “passing of Nian” or “Guo Nian” in Chinese. However the term was gradually changed to “Spring Festival” after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) took power in 1949. Gradually people have forgotten the legend behind these Chinese New Year traditions. In its 2006 Chinese New Year shows, NTDTV actually put the ancient story of the Nian monster on stage.

The erhu, sometimes known in the West as the Chinese violin or Chinese two string fiddle, is a two-stringed bowed musical instrument. Ms. Qi Xiaochun will perform the erhu in Holiday Wonders at the Beacon Theater on Broadway, Dec. 19-24, and also at the 2007 NTDTV Chinese New Year Spectacular shows which are touring North America from Jan. to Mar. 2007.
