Jayna Haney is the Founder of The Bridge Across for Stepfamilies and Single Parent Families She works with single parents and stepfamilies to create satisfying lives and healthy families with programs, strategies and tools designed especially for them. Regardless of complicated situations, you can be centered and enjoy life even in the midst of the ups and downs. Jayna and her husband of 7 years, Mike (who were both single parents) live in Houston and have a lot of fun with their four kids, ages 12 to 15.

Mistakes can be positives for all of us. I have discovered with my own children that they actually like it when I make mistakes. I think this is because it makes them feel like I am human too. After all, if they have to work on growing up, why should I be afraid to keep doing it also?

Our hearts do get bigger as we add people to our lives. And in the same way, we want to support our children in having "big" hearts. We want to help them make room for all the people that may be in their life- other parent, stepparent, stepsiblings, half siblings, etc

A good sense of humor is vital to finding happiness in your stepfamily life. Why? Because with all the complications, you'll need some ways to make it okay. How? By trying to step away from it mentally and act like a third party just looking on. Laughter makes our problems more manageable. See it for the craziness that it sometimes is.
