2007 Usasa National Championships: Snowboard Cross Event April 4thNationals were held at Northstar at Tahoe again this year, both racers and course officials had to battle the weather. The last snow that fell on the course came on March 26th and the temps had been in the 60’s for weeks. Racers were not allowed their practice days and officials had to remove a table near the finish because parts of the course began to show dirt. The best way to really stick it to’em is get it all on film. Quarry Ridge Trail. New Trail for South Central WisconsinSpring is in the air. It’s time to bust out the bikes and hit the trails. The city of Fitchburg, WI added a new trail late last season, but our friend B Bob has added to it during last year’s warm early winter. I rode the trail last year in the dark and had a blast, but had to check it out in the day light and scope out Bob’s new additions. Here’s the low down… Back Country SafetyAs a back country snowboarder I have mixed feelings when I hear of tragedy on the mountain. I do feel sorry for the victims because sometimes very experienced people get caught in freak situations. I also feel angry about the number of inexperienced people that venture off where they shouldn’t be without the proper training. I would like to work toward a safer sport by advocating back country safety programs like Friends of Berthood Pass, and CAIC, Colorado Avalanche Information Center. By getting people educated we can reduce fatalities on the mountains we love. Here I will discuss the three basic factors that contribute to avalanches. They are terrain, snowpack, and weather. Winning Endurance Mountain Bike RacesThe proper preparation for winning endurance mountain bike races is a multifaceted endeavor. Did ya catch that? I mean, Do you want to win a 12 or 24 hour mountain bike race this season? Well listen up. There are a lot of things to consider, so the best approach is to break it down into parts to make sure you have your bases covered, or at least your saddle.
I will discuss the five key elements that a racer should focus on to win endurance mountain bike races. These include the physical demands of the bike trail. What type of mountain bike to race. What kind of gear is needed. The mental state of mind a ride should have. And finally, what the racer should eat before, during and after the race.
