![]() Jerry Grinkmeyer - ArticlesMy quest to re-discover myself began in earnest in April of 1990. I was having an emotional breakdown of sorts and called out for my mother. I distinctly remember the part of me that wasn’t screaming, crying and drooling was wondering “What if she actually showed up?” I recovered from the meltdown but, like a pebble in my shoe, that question bothered me for the rest of the day. That evening I began writing “Conversations with Katherine”, the book that took me 17 years to complete and serves as the inspiration for my website.
“Conversations” is the story of Rudy Krause, a middle-aged man struggling to overcome the effects of the debilitating self image bequeathed him by an abusive step-mother. Rudy’s story is a vicarious account my own journey back to sanity. His emotions are my emotions. His triumphs and tragedies are mine, too. When Rudy suffers the pain that often accompanies personal growth, I suffer with him. As Rudy casts off the shackles that stand between him and his destiny I cast off mine. On my site I’ll share with you what I’ve learned about goal setting, taking personal responsibility for your life and how to change limiting beliefs and attitudes, all essential skills of personal development. You’ll discover the power of surrender and forgiveness and I’ll help you heal deep-seated emotional wounds that are preventing you from implementing the personal growth techniques you’ve learned in the past. And I’ll stand as proof that it’s never too late to do what you must do! I’ll teach you some philosophy from Sigmund Freud and Abraham Maslow. You’ll gain insight into what lies at the heart of all human motivation and you’ll come to understand why you’re always striving to become a more complete you. I’ll introduce you to a powerful exercise I designed to map your way to happiness by exploring what’s really important to you. And I’ll share with you some science that will explain some of the unbelievable claims you’ve heard from Law of Attractions teachers. Will my web site provide you with the answer, that one little bit of insight or information that will break you free from whatever it is that’s been holding you back? I truly hope so, but I also realize that there are a whole lot of roads that lead to my home town, and that some of those roads work better for some people than for others. It is my sincere desire that you take something of value when you leave. And if you do, please tell your friends about personal-growth-journey.com. 3 Fears That Prevent People From Quitting SmokingI've Thought Long and Hard About Why it Took Me so Long to Quit Smoking. Part 2: Changing Limiting BeliefsIn the first part of our discussion on beliefs we defined beliefs and determined why they are important to our personal growth. In Part II we'll discover how to uncover and change those beliefs that dis-empower us. The Power Of BeliefsOur personal power is dependent on the actions we do or do not take. And before we do or do not take an action we consult a belief to see if what we are contemplating doing will create mental peace or mental conflict. A belief is confidence in the truth of a person or thing. That person or thing does not need to be true for us to believe in it and cause us to act accordingly.
