Having your dog on a well-defined feeding and exercise schedule is good for both of you. A set feeding schedule makes it easier for you to determine if your dog is feeling "off". When feeding and other activities are somewhat random, it's harder to determine how your dog feels, and what might be causing problems. More importantly, dogs feel more secure the more they follow routines.
Brushing your dog's coat often is a good way to keep debris out of your house and it's another great way to bond with him. Vacuuming your house as often as necessary - even daily - will let everyone breathe easier. Since dogs are so sensitive to smell; rather than covering up odors with scented products, try baking soda or charcoal (not the briquettes, however) to eliminate those odors entirely.
