Much progress that has been made in the area of "acceptance" of homeschooling as a viable education alternative. Even so, when the term "Bible Based Homeschooling" arises, many people revert to their previous sterotypes (however wrong they may be)
For many families with young children, our homes can tend to look less tidy than we would prefer. Hot wheels and Barbie dolls scatter the living room landscape, artwork hangs sideways by a magnet on the refrigerator, and velcro-fastening shoes seem to multiply on a nightly basis. Add to this all the "stuff" that comes along with doing school at home and you could have yourself a mighty mess. Don't jump the gun and go hire a Professional Organizer just yet.
What if you were looking at a brochure for a school that claimed it offered: 'Class ratios as low as 1:1, individualized education plans tailored to the strengths, needs and preferences of each child in the program. Weekly field trips to nature centers, state parks, art museums, historical sites. Classroom instruction that is in line with your family's world view and core values. A flexible schedule that allows for family cohesiveness.
Thanks to the internet, the opportunities for educating outside of a classroom are endless. Homeschooling families are discovering what Universities all over the world have used to their advantage: Students do not need to be in a classroom with a teacher to process "the facts" and the internet is an extremely effective means of transmitting those facts in an engaging way.
The Million Dollar Question: "What about socialization?" If you have homeschooled for any amount of time (or even if you've just kicked around the idea of homeschooling in lighthearted conversation), you have had this thought or have been asked this question: "What about socialization?"
Like most women in America, I find myself extremely busy. I am the mother of three children, the wife of a teacher, coach and part-time cattle farmer, a blogger, a homeschooler and, oh by the way, I have a full time job.
