This article is concerned with the subject of Fair Trade, with a focus on understanding the role of consumers in the growth of Fair Trade. It looks at the history of Fair Trade and discusses the historical and current trade policy context, which conditions the growth of Fair Trade. To better understand the current levels of knowledge and awareness among consumers, an original consumer survey was designed and carried out at two UK supermarkets.
