This year I've decided to add a new step to this acknowledgemnt process. I am going to build a cairn in gratitude for 2009. Soulful ListeningIn this age of instant global communication, it is ironic that one of the most common unmet universal needs is the need to be heard. If we are unable to listen to our own hearts, it is impossible for us to truly empathize with and share the deep felt experiences of another? Soulful listening is not simply an auditory process. It requires the full engagement of the body, mind, and spirit. Listening is an act of witnessing. Similarly, with only a few small shifts in perspective, you can transform yourself from an ineffectual worrywart to a resourceful, decisive individual. Spring Cleaning for the SoulAs we shed our winters coats and sweaters, it is also a good time to shed some of the layers that have crusted over our hearts. So much clutter accumulates in our hearts without us even being consciously aware of it. This year let your spring cleaning occur from the inside out. Lighten your heart. And in the cleared, open space begin to plant new seeds of what you want to grow in your life. Becoming Unplugged: A Personalized RetreatThink of all that we have sacrificed by our dependence on these modern technologies? We have lost the ability to hear ourselves think. We have forgotten the beauty of silence pierced only by the sounds of nature. And we have become human doers rather than human beings. One way to help remedy this situation is to take a personal retreat. Set aside an entire day and become completely unplugged.
