Karl graduated from Princeton University in 1990 with a B.S.E. in Civil Engineering and a Certificate in Architecture. He was captain of the men’s varsity soccer team during the 1988 and 1989 seasons. The Tigers won the Ivy League in 1988 and Karl was voted First Team All-Ivy in 1989. In 1993, he earned an M.A. in Secondary Education from Seton Hall University and became certified to teach mathematics in the State of New Jersey. Aside from teaching undergraduate math classes during his graduate years, Karl tutored many undergraduate student-athletes one-on-one, including a mix of future Olympic medalists, NBA regulars and Division I college coaches and administrators. From 1993 to 1994, he served as an environmental science instructor for adjudicated youth in New Jersey (i.e., for students in New Jersey’s prisons and reform schools). The program was run through the Office of Continuing Education of Rutgers University. It was through the environmental science program that Karl learned invaluable lessons about the rudiments of teaching and learning. From 1994 to 1997, he taught mathematics at The Hun School of Princeton. During his three years at Hun, he also coached and served as a dorm parent for Hun’s residential students. In 2000, Karl earned a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. From 2000 to 2002, he worked as a corporate attorney at Dechert, LLP, one of the nation’s biggest and most prestigious law firms. He is a member in good standing of the New Jersey State Bar Association. After more than twelve years of success as a teacher and private tutor in the Princeton area, Karl launched ePrep.com to offer motivated students and their parents free expert advice on test prep and college planning.
