During the nineteen seventies I travelled from my home in the east end of London across Europe and the Gibraltar Straits to Morroco from whence my true journey began... Across the whole of North Africa in a beaten up old VW van, at least as far as the oasis town in Lybia where it broke down, was only a taster for the adventure that was to come after selling the van and continuing with public transport! From Benghazi to Alexandria by ship and then up the lower Nile by train to Cairo, Luxor and on to Aswan. Then on through the Sudan across the Nubian Desert and up the White Nile to southern Sudan and on to Kenya where I began to work. This journey ended in sickness which made me return to London where I met my future wife. The two of us returned to Kenya and continued our travels in East Africa and on to Pakistan, India, Nepal, Malaysia and Singapore. After that journey we took a twenty five year holiday from travelling and raised two wonderful kids who are now independent, which gives us time to enjoy travelling once again. Our experiences in Africa with little or no money taught us that African people are generous and, in spite of poverty, happy and humble. It was clear that I would return to Africa in an attempt to help those people, which is why I have now built a small safari lodge in Tanzania, the net profits of which go each year to an aid project in rural Tanzania. Check the links in my stories, poems and articles to see the kind of help we are providing. Since my original travels I have been writing poetry and short stories for pleasure, not for sale. Now, however, I realise that these writings can help me achieve my aim to help Tanzania. By linking to my website from each article I boost the site's popularity with search engines and thus gain more website visitors and hopefully customers that will help us help Tanzania! You too can help us and Tanzania at absolutely no cost to yourself simply by adding a link to our website on your site.
