I\'ve been around for longer than I care to be reminded of. During that unimaginable span of aeons it has been my honour to learn many things from men wiser than myself. I do my best to translate those lessons into my writing and thereby to share them with you. The primary thing I have learned is that something CAN be done about the problems that beset Man. I have learned that solutions to those problems already exist and they need merely to be brought to your attention. I happen to like this planet and the people living on it. I think your civilization is pretty cool and potentially tremendous fun. Part of the task before us is to extend that cooolness and that fun-ness so that more of the inhabitants of Earth can participate in it. I have no time for those who defame or villify Man or who encourage Man to formulate a low opinion of himself. Such low esteem is not justified by the facts and where you see it touted or propagandized, you will find people with unclean hands and crimes great or small against Man. There is in fact not a great deal wrong with Man except that a small minority of his number are not quite sane and the insane few wreck things for the sane many. Man has not yet learned the importance of this phenomenon, one that is not in fact peculiar to Man but is common to every intelligent race of the Galaxy. Man should be proud of his accomplishments and the dramatic speed of his advancement. Today he finds himself on the threshold of the stars and on a very steep learning curve. If things are not running right and we appear mired in problems, consider that the life-force learns from its collisions with the material universe and the participation in a game requires that we encounter and surmount obstacles. Man is young and inexperienced: vast energy and raw ability harnessed to meagre experience can get him into trouble. All the difficulties Man faces derive from his inexperience. But Man is learning and many of the lessons of the past few thousand years are learned and await only broader dissemination. Change is coming. Something wonderful is going to happen.
