Mano Watsa - Articles

Mano was the first Canadian athlete to ever attend Point Guard College. A terrific example of the impact PGC can have on an athlete, Mano returned from his PGC experience and saw his game transformed. While attending the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, he was selected as a 2-time All-Canadian (one of the top 10 players in the nation), while earning Academic All-Canadian honors on his way to a degree in Recreation & Leisure and Business. Mano capped off his university career with his selection as the 1998 Canadian TSN Award recipient for combining excellence in athletics, academics and community involvement.

Upon completing his university career, Mano went on to play with Athletes In Action, competing against top Division 1 teams in the U.S. and touring throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. Mano returned home and began his highly acclaimed high school assembly presentation, Power To Choose. As a gifted motivational speaker, Mano has used his basketball-based presentation as a platform to address over 250,000 students across North America.

Mano’s involvement with teaching the game began at the age of 15. He started his own basketball camp in his parents’ backyard with 8 campers. Within a few years, the camp grew to over 100 athletes a week, and residential camps were added for players across the country.

In 2001, after a 7-year friendship with the late PGC founder Dick DeVenzio, Mano created his own program for point guards in Canada (the Point Guard Academy) in tribute to Dick. Over a 5-year span, the program attracted athletes from across North America and around the world. Mano is the President of Point Guard College and will direct Essentials courses on the PGC '09 Tour.
