I am the Director of Communications for Gighive.com As an independent artist, I want to give the indie artist a chance to express themselves either in an article, or an interview. Featuring a voice that can not be heard in the mainstream media is only one way I want to go against the machine. All artists have an opinion and have the right to be heard, and I want to give them that outlet. I also want to give the indie artist tips on how to become recognized on the internet.

The first social network and online music directory, Gighive.com, conducted a private launch on April 6, 2009. Gighive beta is designed to offer independent artists the same kind of network that major record companies have relied on for decades. The Web site connects independent artists and bands to a global network of producers, independent label executives, promoters, musicians and other connections associated to the industry.
Independent artists need to purchase their own Web site domain name. This is imperative for indie artists, because the link to their site is what they need to employ in order to utilize search engine optimization. For example, their Web site link needs to be posted on other Web sites, forums, blogs and message boards. Basically, this is similar to posting flyers all over the cities where they are playing shows. Every flyer seen and picked up is another potential fan that the band attracts.
Online marketing has turned into the best way for independent artists to get their name known around the world. The most trendy, but worst way by re-routing fans to their social networking sites. What is the best way for indie artists to market themselves online? Create your own "Dot Com." Indie artists have the freedom to do whatever they want on their "Dot Com's."
Battling with years of constant negativity, N.K. will release his newest CD, Oct. 31, Branded By The Struggle, which is filled with tracks of the indie rapper trying to overcome his negative experiences.
Innovation is the one word I would use to describe Obscure Belts' line of designs. Founded by sculptor, Bryan Schultz, Obscure Belts has become one of the most creative belt buckle lines to come out in recent years. From the tweaked out rotating design of the Dial to the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics of the Osiris buckle, Schultz has shown his wide range of inspirations for his art.
Touring is a great way for independent bands to fund their projects. Many bands do not know what they must do in order to get a response from club promoters, entertainment venue owners and bars. I have compiled a few tips to help answer questions a band may have.
Independent musicians who try to find managers, book agents, and publicists through Myspace, Facebook, and other social networks, need to be aware of people who will approach the band to try and take advantage of them. The person who is promising promotion and shows could ultimately be a scam artist who just wants the artists' money. The scammer more than likely used to work for a major label.
