The temple was built by the first King of Tibet Songtsem Gampo as premises for the Buddha statues that were bought by his Nepalese and Tang wives. The temple was built in 647 and had only eight shrines. But it has been extensively renovated many a times under the Yuan, the Ming and the Qing dynasties.

Mount Wuyi, widely considered to be one of the most beautiful spots in China, stands south of Wuyishan, a city in Fujian province. The mountain's slopes are covered by a vast subtropical forest and dotted with a number of important archeological sites. Because of its natural beauty and its historical significance, Mount Wuyi was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

During the Ming and Qing dynasties Ping Yao, in the center of Shanxi province, was the financial capital of China. Today the city’s ancient architecture is in very good condition and it retains much the same appearance it had hundreds of years ago.
