The Virgin Birth of Jesus - Did it Really Happen?In two of the four New Testament gospels we read that Jesus is born of a virgin (Mary) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Matthew does not give us many details how this happened and just mentions the basic facts: "This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came... The Virgin Birth of Jesus – Did it Really Happen?How do we know that the virgin birth account was not just added to the gospels to embellish Jesus’ birth as fulfilled prophecy and a supernatural event? It is obviously not possible for us 2000 years after this event to study any medical or other scientific evidence to support this claim. However through logical analysis combined with our knowledge of life and the culture of those days the case for the virgin birth seems surprisingly strong. Let us just make sure that we objectively interpret the knowledge we have gained and will gain in the future: our Earth is extraordinary uniquely positioned and composed to allow for life to exist. The Great Men of HistoryAsk anybody: “Who are the great men in human history?” What do these men have in common? What made them great? Compare them to Jesus of Nazareth. He did not pursue the agendas which made others great, still He towers above them all. Did They Have a Reason to Lie?Most of what we know about Jesus of Nazareth comes from the New Testament gospels and Paul’s epistles. We can verify that these accounts are historically reliable through researching history and archeology. But are they also giving honest testimony? Would they have had a reason to lie? Divine Accomplishment Versus Human AchievementWhat do you have to do to go to heaven? All world religions attempt to give an answer. They have instructions for their believers to do certain works or say certain prayers. Only Christianity teaches that we cannot earn our own salvation. We are saved thanks to God’s work, not ours. Only Christianity Offers a Complete Plan of RedemptionHow can you know whether you will to heaven when you die? Just be a good person? Do more good deeds than bad things? Go to church every week? Read the Bible or the Qur’an? All religions talk and teach about their way to heaven, moksha or nirvana. Except for Christianity they all seem to leave lots of uncertainty and open endings.
