Helping vulnerable mother to help her own childrenSok was one among a hundred poor families who benefit through SSF. They were invited to attend a workshop sharing about the 2010 fiscal year plan. The workshop was organized at SSF compound in September 2009. Last financial year [2009], SSF was able to support 50 vulnerable kids and those hundred [100] poor families as SSF could partner with Riverkids, Global Colors, Groundwork Opportunities and other individual donors around the world. What makes SSF unique? While there are many NGO’s and other aid groups that focus on helping people who have been victimized by human trafficking and sexual exploitation, SSF is special in the fact that it seeks to identify children at high risk for being trafficked in the communities where they live, in order to prevent them from being exploited in the first place. Better lives for disable peopleThere is a long history of discrimination against the disabled in Cambodia. Most Cambodians believe that a disabled person did something in his/her previous life to deserve this condition, thus must be left alone to suffer and wait until their next life. So is the case with Kong Thuok’s daughter, Socheat. Socheat was born with Cerebral Palsy, one of 400 cases throughout the Kampong Speu province. Wells of opportunityThis project will provide clean, safe drinking water to rural Cambodians in an attempt to provide economic independence and improve health, as well as to limit the financial burdens resulting from water access that ultimately cause families to engage in desperate behaviors like trafficking themselves or their children.
