I learned to enjoy writing from my college composition instructor. Going into the class I thought I knew everything there was to know about writing. I had never thought about how the little things could make such a big difference in an article. After taking that course I even enjoy reading my own articles. The first article I had published was one that I volunteered to write for a local monthly publication. I am now the writer for monthly articles for and about our local Humane Society. I also write for our quarterly newsletter. As with the previously mentioned articles, my articles are primarily animal related. My subjects range from animal care to animal cruelty. To me each subject is as important as the other. My goal is to teach average people lessons that they would not normally think about. There are times that I use writing as a form of therapy. Most times I free write to get my emotions and frustrations out. Other times I write poems to express my deep feelings about something that has happened. It still amazes me how the poems to pop into my head and will not go away until I write them down. There have been times that I have had to get out of bed late at night to put my thoughts on paper so I could go to sleep. I am very grateful for the tools my college instructor gave me to continue my enjoyable journey of writing. Each article or poem is a new stepping stone and learning experience for myself and my readers.

Chaining has been a socially acceptable method of restraining dogs for hundreds of years in the United States. This practice of restraint has proven dangerous for not only the chained dogs but humans, other dogs, and animals that come in contact with the dog.
Doogie had been at the shelter for about five months when I met him. He was approximately three months old when his previous owners turned him in because they were not allowed to have a dog where they were living. Doogie was a cute little brindle with white pitbull mix. By the end of August he had grown into quite a big boy.
The majority of the American public has negative views of today's teens as a result of the actions of a few. Teens that are making positive contributions to their community rarely get the same attention from the general public and media. I highly recommend using the talents available through this energetic age group. The results will vary but the successes make it all worthwhile.
Canine glaucoma occurs in approximately 8% of dogs in the United States. It is the leading cause of blindness in middle aged dogs. Glaucoma in dogs, as in humans, is an abnormal buildup of fluid inside of the eye. The buildup occurs when the fluid does not drain properly through a filter between the cornea and sclera of the eye. The increased amount of fluid within the eye destroys the retina and optic nerve which will quickly cause blindness.
Military Working Dogs (MWD's) were utilized long before the invention of gun powder. The first known force to use MWD's is the Roman Empire. Many European countries have taken advantage of the canine's senses since approximately 55 B.C. and continue to do so today. Military Working Dogs and their handlers continue to serve our country today within the borders of the United States as well as countries throughout the world. The deployments include combat as well as routine military duty.
