By now, everyone has heard about the on going controversy over the new airport security procedures enacted by the Transportation Security Agency (TSA). The TSA is now in the process of installing hundreds of scanning machines at airport security check-points that are used to scan the bodies of passengers. February 12th, 2009, is the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincolns’ birthday. Arguably one of the greatest American presidents, the life of Abraham Lincoln is the story of the promise and dream of the American era. He epitomizes the belief that any American child can grow up to be President of the United States. This book tells that story in words that young people can understand.
Abraham Lincoln was President at a time of great crisis, and it will do well for us to reflect on some of the hard times that Lincoln, and the Nation faced, and remember that, in those former times, their problems were perceived to be just as serious as our current problems, and yet, they survived, and over came them.
Anyone who thinks that the building of the Panama Canal was just a matter of digging a long ditch, does not know Panama history. It was a monumental task that could not have been completely envisioned from the start. And its profound and prominent place in American history is undeniable.
Anyone who says that it is a waste of time to read American era history from antiquarian (antique) books is missing a great history resource. Antiquarian books are a rich source of historical information that is unfettered and undiluted by modern historical researchers. It's a pleasure to read a history book that is not just another repetition of facts and figures and a sequence of events like every other book on a given subject, and that is not full of politically correct platitudes.
