Stephen Stillman - ArticlesThe Tree of Life: A Cure For Bittered WatersWe are familiar with the story of Moses leading the people of Israel out of bondage in Egypt. One of their most critical times during this journey was when they were suffering from an almost intolerable thirst. How their hearts beat with joy when they came to Marah and saw water! Just as quickly as their hearts become joyful, despair came again because the waters were too bitter to drink. All of us sooner or later in life come to Marah where we find bitter waters in the cup of human experience. What does God Require of Me?God is our heavenly Father, and as our Father it is easy for us to become dependent on Him when we are in need. In our dependency on God we expect Him to do what we ask. The Word of God tells us that we are to ask and we will be given, but that doesn’t mean God is required to do what we ask. The Word of God tells us that it is us who are obligated, and God has requirements of us. What exactly does God require? Unexpected CrossesLife is full of Unexpected Crosses. There are many who are compelled to carry their crosses and yet don't understand why. All of us sooner or later find that we must bear our own Unexpected Crosses. We would shun the burden if we could, but there is no way to escape. Why are you a Christian Today? There has never been a time in the history of the Christian faith in which our faith has been more rudely challenged and tested as it is today. It seems that Christianity has to be on guard against enemies from without and enemies from within it’s own household. It is very relevant to always be ready to make a defense to anyone who calls us to account for the faith that is in us. When Does Joy Appear? The New Testament makes it very plain that our source of joy comes from a relationship with Jesus. Jesus Himself spoke of two ways that we might find joy in Him. These 2 statements verify that the source of joy available to us comes from our relationship with Jesus, but the question asked is when does this joy appear? Driving Radio-Controlled (RC) CarsOne of the most exciting hobbies are RC (radio controlled) toys. Probably the most poplar RC toy is the RC car. They seem to be more popular because they can be operated in more areas than RC aircraft, or boats. RC cars are loads of fun, and are relatively inexpensive for their amazing quality. Drifing AwayMany churches today are struggling to survive. Pastors and church leaders seem to get a lot of pressure when their churches fail to grow. Churches are living organisms, and as such they are not intended to remain the same. If they are nourished, they grow. If they are underfed and neglected, they go the other direction and begin to die. The church depends upon the condition of each individual member for it’s existence. God's Cure For DepressionDepression is without a doubt one of the most common problems in our time. Due to the fact depression is so common, it has been called the common cold of emotional diseases. Unfortunately Christians, even great spiritual leaders, are not exempt from depression. Love…The Strength of the ChurchJesus’ earthly ministry was a time of training his disciples and preparing them to build and maintain the Church. During his earthly ministry Jesus was questioned by the most religious group of people during that time, the Pharisees. At this time the Pharisees had over 600 laws for a devout Pharisee to follow. And they did follow the laws strictly, but in following them they never did reach up to help people. They never bothered to make sure that all of God’s creation was cared for. Why Do Christians Fight?Jesus told us in the Scriptures that He did not come into the world to abolish the law; but He came to fulfill the law. His words tell us that the law (ten commandments) are still valid but He fulfilled the old law with 2 new commandments … “Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself”.
