Vasco is working with metals since 1985. His previous education as a violinist helped him very little in a way of making him study History of Art as well as putting him on certain aesthetic foundation, which now he considers important. In 1985 he has entered the world of metal craft in the shape of an apprentice knife maker position in the Ethnographic Complex “The Old Dobrich”. Although he started as an apprentice, there was not master to teach him, so he had to master himself into a knife maker. He did this pretty fast. Working in a team with his brother he has accomplished numerous commissioned Artistic Metal works in Bulgaria between 1985 and 1990 apart from over 400 knifes handcrafted for this period. In 1991 Vasco moved to South Africa. and went into fine jewelry, working exclusively in 18kt. gold and platinum. Designing and manufacturing high quality jewelry is his passion and what he does for living for more than 18 years. The number of jewelry pieces that came out of Vasco’s own bench is well over 2000, and he is still designing and making jewelry in his studio in Cape Town – South Africa, as a full time job. Vasco Kirov has been awarded the following prestigious awards for excellence in diamond jewelry design: 1997 De Beers Shining light award 1997 Jewellex Double finalist and Overall winner 1998 PJS Los Angeles Best in category over $2500 1999 De Beers Shining light award 2000 De Beers Diamond-International Awards-Finalist 2000 Jewellex Finalist In 2004 he started a new venture in oil painting and sculpture. His interests include music (playing violin and guitar), painting, sculpture, precious stones, alternative history, archaeology and anthropology among others.
