WILLIAM THOMAS I am an award-winning author/journalist specializing in stories the mainstream media refuses to expose. As an environmental activist and consultant, I co-founded Green Islands and the Save Georgia Straight Alliance. I served on clear-cut logging blockades on Salt Spring Island, the Tsitika, Walbran and Clayoquot Sound – and pioneered the use of aerial videos and 60-second “spot” TV ads to expose illegal logging. I also helped lead successful campaigns to clean up pulp mills dumping dioxins into the Strait of Georgia, and as a reported from inside the native blockade a Gustafson Lake. Hoping to make a difference during the oil fires of Desert Storm, I co-founded the Gulf Environmental Emergency Response team. During and immediately after the Gulf War, I served five months in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as a member of a three-man environmental emergency response team. My 30-minute video documentary Eco War won the 1991 US Environmental Festival award for “Best Documentary Short”. Excerpts from this “front-lines” chronicle of a three-man environmental emergency response team in Kuwait aired in an eight-part CBC Gulf War mini-series, and have been shown on CNN and NBC television, as well as the movie, “The Corporation”. I am the author of All Fall Down: The Politics of Terror and Mass Persuasion, Alt. Health, Scorched Earth, Bringing The War Home, Chemtrails Confirmed, Dialing Our Cells and Days Of Deception: Ground Zero And Beyond - and the recipient of four Canadian feature-writing awards. William is my middle name. Under the name “Randy Thomas” my writing and photography have appeared in more than 50 publications in eight countries, including translations into French, Dutch and Japanese. Born and raised in the USA, I came to Canada in 1970 after resigning my US Navy Reserve commission. Having learned from the Pentagon Papers that the Gulf of Tonkin incident was fabricated, and appalled by the killing of more than two million Vietnamese and Cambodians, I made my agonizing decision when I realized that I could not napalm families no different in their aspirations and love for their children than my own. A former pilot, ocean sailor and frequent radio talk-show guest, I currently live and work among the Gulf Islands off Canada’s west coast.
