3 Tips That Will Keep Your Auto Battery Charger Charging

With more people owning cars, motorcycles and RV's there are more reasons to buy an auto battery charger. People are finding it more economical to do it yourself and buying chargers to keep their batteries going. This makes sense both economically and ecologically as these can extend the life of a battery. But what about extending the life of your charger?

Even though buying a charger for your favorite vehicle is relatively inexpensive here are three pointers to prolong the life of your battery charger. These tips mostly apply to portable and bench tip models but the first and third tip apply to the self contained chargers, such as tenders, as well.

Vacuum the outside

Blankets keep you warm. A blanket of dust does so too when covering electronic devices. Heat is a leading killer of electronic components. All devices are designed to operate at their peak within a certain temperature range. Having a layer of dirt and dust can cause excessive heat therefore quite possibly shortening the life of your device.

Blow out the vents

Just as dust on the outside can create an insulating layer so it can on the inside. I can hear the people who work on semiconductor equipment (i.e. computers and other electronic devices) saying you can damage it by the static electricity generated from moving air particles. Although it is a very slight risk and might happen, blowing it out gently once or twice a year with dry clean air is well worth the risk to keep it safe from heat damage.

Keep objects away

Still playing on the blanket theme just as dust can be like a blanket so can objects that closely surround it. Keep clutter away at least three to six inches or more. This ensures that the unit can cool normally under conditions that it was designed for.

Buying an auto battery charger makes great sense especially if you own more than one vehicle. Keeping it clean and running optimally is even smarter since this will prolong the life of your device providing many years of charging.
