Major Japanese automakers including Toyota and Honda (the producer of quality Honda hood protector) has reported recently that they have achieved an increase in their auto production last August of this year, recovering from the previous month’s decline due to the earthquake damage at one of its major suppliers in Japan.

In addition global production of Toyota Motor Corp., Nissan Motor Co., Mitsubishi Motors Corp., and Honda Motor Co., have also increased last month. Meanwhile, Mazda Motor Corp. the Japanese subsidiary of Ford has posted a decline in production for August.

Last July, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda were forced temporarily to stop production at some of their domestic plants due to the earthquake damage incurred by their key supplier Riken Corp. It can be remembered that the earthquake that hit Japan last July 16 had a 6.8 magnitude and struck the north-central part of the country where 11 people were reported killed.

After the earthquake, most of the major Japanese automakers went back on track especially Toyota which is now closing in on General Motors Corp. into becoming the world’s new largest number one automaker. Toyota’s global production has increased by 6.9 percent to 742,095 vehicles in August with overseas output rising by 12.7 percent to 366,538 units. The Japanese automaker’s domestic production has also climbed 1.8 percent to 375,512 vehicles.

Honda Motor, currently Japan’s second-biggest automaker has reported that its global production has increased by 8.4 percent to 311,117 vehicles for the month of August while its overseas output has climb by 9.1 percent to 214,702 units. The increase obtained by Honda was a record for the month both in terms of global and overseas production.

The month of August was also the 25th straight month of increase for both of Honda’s global and overseas production. Honda has also set a record for its production in North America, China, and the rest of Asia last August. In Japan alone, Honda has increased its production by 6.8 percent to 94,415 vehicles which is the first on-year rise obtained by the automaker in two months.

The Tokyo-based Nissan Motor has also obtained an increase in global production by 16.7 percent to 267,390 last August while its domestic output grew by 10.1 percent to 87,187 vehicles. Its overseas production has increased by 20.1 percent to 180,203 units. However in the US its production fell by 8.4 percent to 65,087 units last August that is despite the increase output of the Altima model.

Another Japanese automaker, Mitsubishi Motors has reported that its worldwide production increase by 16.9 percent to 109,817 vehicles while domestic output rose by 34.7 percent compensating for the 1.5 percent decline in the automaker’s overseas production.

Mazda which has reported a decline in production last August said that it’s global production dive by 4.1 percent to 93,476 vehicles. Fortunately for its domestic production an increase of 2 percent to 72,530 units was achieved. However, its overseas output was not that lucky and fell by 20.6 percent to 20,946 vehicles caused by the termination of production in China of its Familia and Premacy models.
